Between 1953 and 1955 Bodywork Ghia in Turin Italy has encased a small series of Chrysler, the Chrysler Special.
These cars were sold exclusively by the company in Paris France Motors, which Chrysler Plymouth was also important for France.
Several different models have been constructed.
The first Special Chrysler in 1953, also known under the appellation Chrysler Thomas Special, was designed by Virgil Exner.
This section was built on a chassis standard Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe 1953, the V8 equipped hemispherical and semi automatic box. Its steel body is directly welded to the chassis.
These luxury cars built entirely by hand received a fine finish with leather interior and dual color paintings, their sale price was also very high.
In the fall of 1953 a new model was presented at the Paris Salon, a completely different design of the previous designers to Ghia. This new model was named Chrysler GS Special, it is also known as GS1 Chrysler. This car was always built on a chassis of Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe standard equipped V8 hemispherical and the new 2-speed automatic gearbox "Powerflite. This car received the front and rear bumper and taillights Chrysler New Yorker. However, it retained its trapezoidal grille and the headlights inside the wings as the first version.
the autumn 1954 a new revamped version renamed ST Chrysler Special was presented.
Also built on a steel chassis Chrysler New Yorker 1954, the differences were in the front and rear fenders less rounded.
Chassis and mechanics were strictly identical to the GS Special.
the Turin Motor Show 1955 was presented a new version of the Chrysler ST Special, this time builded on a chassis of Chrysler New Yorker 1955. The general design of this car was identical to the GS and ST Special previous generations, but it was now equipped with lamps, lights, bumpers front and rear 1955 Chrysler New Yorker and a panoramic windscreen.
This version was the last of the line of Chrysler and Ghia also the only one to have been declined a convertible.
